ABOUT THE BOOK

‘It weeps, it bleeds, and each day a new injury is added to her wounds’ While Macbeth degenerates into butcher which he has created himself: “Here I have a pilot’s thumb, wreck’d as homeward he did come”, Lady Macbeth has guilty conscience and is slowly losing her mind. Their isolation from each other goes to such an extent when Macbeth receives news of her death; he seems to do so with extreme callousness.
Lady Macbeth is aware of Macbeth’s impending-arrival. Though she cannot see whole truth, she tells us great deal about Macbeth. As we look at character of Macbeth we see, effects of uncontrolled ambition on man who is, except for his ambition, noble in nature. Goethe famously-described Lady Macbeth as “super witch” to describe her evil forces is worse than three witches, also known as Weird-Sisters or Wayward-Sisters. Shakespeare uses imperatives to suggest Lady Macbeth: “Come, thick night, and pall thee in the dunnest smoke of hell.” Her famous speech: “Come, you spirits that tend on mortal thoughts, unsex me here and fill me from the crown to the toe top-full of direst cruelty!”
Macbeth murders his king. To murder any man is crime, but those who lived at time of Shakespeare thought that murder of king was greatest of all crimes. Kings were appointed by God, to rule as His deputies: rebellion against true king was rebellion against God. By murdering Duncan, Macbeth gains crown; but he loses love, friendship and respect, in the end his life.
