About the book
Your New Baby: A no-nonsense guide for new parents is an indispensable, one-stop guide and reference book for parents, grandparents and other caregivers, written in clear, simple, and trustworthy language. Written by knowledgeable, experienced, discerning and empathetic clinicians, it has bite-sized chapters addressing every possible doubt that a new parent could have. It is inspired by love for the newborn and concern for the new parent and is a veritable tool-kit with appropriate illustrations, pictures, and links to practical videos and to websites offering up-to-date and accurate information. This book provides guidance and direction to the new-generation parents who enjoy parenting despite work and life pressures. The chapters are arranged thoughtfully and flow from preparing for a baby all the way through to the early years of the child. There is a wealth of sensible information about maternal health, infant feeding, commonly faced issues, and mental health. Situations thrown up by modern living – air travel, automobile safety, maternity leave, the role of fathers – are all addressed. Illnesses and normal variations in babies are discussed with illustrations for clarification. Child development steps are elaborated upon and easily understood, whilst also accounting for their flexible nature. The special needs of premature babies are explained so parents can be better prepared. They will feel enabled to partner in the care of their newborn with the medical team. Issues relating to immunisation, concepts, concerns, and misconceptions are also addressed, and the final few pages have a question-and-answer section to further address queries.
