ABOUT THE BOOK
“Happiness is doubled when someone’s beside Side by Side. Sorrow splits in half when someone’s beside Side by Side.” This was the life anthem of Omi Sinha, a young single father popularly known as Photowallah Omi and his seven-year-old son Rocky Sinha; they yearned for a simple happy life in the quaint idyllic town of Landour in Mussoorie in 1900.
The duo had a pact – No mother for Rocky and no wife for Omi. Both pledged to live together ‘Side by Side’ come what may. Enamoured by their bond of Love, a young documentary filmmaker Rashi Saxena convinces them to allow her to document their story.
Life is unpredictable though; Rocky gets infected with a deadly new virus, because of contaminated blood transfusion. The human immunodeficiency virus had no cure in the world in the 90’s. Armed with positive energy and with the loving support of their neighbours, Omi and Rocky take on the ominous future, cherishing each moment. Mind well, it is not a story about the disease, but about survival against all odds. Based on amazing true incidents, this celebration of life, manifests in the exemplary relationship of the single father and son – they brave the impending storm with laugh and cheer, hoping for a miracle.
