SHRI SAMKSHIMPTHA BHAGAVATHAM

Description

At a glance it looks like poetry with four lines as a poem or multiples of four lines like a malika but to read, it runs like a prose. Some important stories in Pothana Bhagavatam are selected and are briefly described. In the introductory note the essence of entire Bhagavatham is given. The important events like Yagna Varahaswamy avatar, Shiva tathva, Daksha Yajnam , Bharatha Bodha, the story of Ajameeludu, Prahlada Charitra, Gajendra Mokshamu , ksheera Sagara Madhanamu, Koormavataramu, Vaamana Charitra, Gangaa Pravahamu, Sri Krishna Leelalu, Rukminee kalyanamu are taken and written in this book. The main idea of this work is to propagate the Divine spirit and contents of Bhagavatham to a large section of general readers. Keeping them in mind, simple words with common language are used. This does not assume any proficiency in language. In Telugu, generally poems are written in a poetic style called Chandassu consisting of yathi and ganas. But here they are not practiced. At the same time it can not be considered as prose. We believe that human beings attain solace and Peace of mind by chanting Lord Vishnu’s name or reading his stories and do some service in a temple or service to human beings, when they are in distress or involved in unanticipated problems or in difficulties. The main essence of Bhagavatam is that one should do their duties (dharmas) with commitment and sincerity without aspiring end result following righteous means.

About The Author

P.V. Sarma is a renowned Social Scientist and Philanthropist, retired as a Professor of Economics, Andhra University. Besides teaching and research, he is known to be an able administrator who served Andhra University, Visakhapatnam in different capacities like-Head of the Department of Economics, Chairman Board of Studies( Economics), Dean, Faculty of Arts; Director School of Economics; Special Officer, Andhra University Postgraduate Extension Centre, Srikakulam. He is founder member of Gayatri Vidya Parishad a premier educational institution in Andhra Pradesh, offering several Undergraduate and Postgraduate courses in Engineering, Science and Technology, and Management Studies. Presently, Director, Research and Development, Gayatri Vidya Parishad, Visakhapatnam. He wrote and edited about twelve books, undertaken six research projects financed by the Government of India, Government of Andhra Pradesh and Institute of Development and Planning Studies. He taught nearly forty years for Postgraduate students of economics and management studies. Thirty students obtained Ph. D under his supervision.
