SER HONGTHOM’, is a historical novella by Lt. BONGLONG TERANG, who is often regarded as the “Father of Karbi Literature”. This book tells the story of Waisong, who got the power and authority of becoming king of three territories.

About the Author

Ru Bonglong Terang is a legendary maestro, an oral master, a folklorist among Karbi tribe, for others a story teller, but he is somewhat greater than that. One recognised him as a great leader, a traveller, poet, researcher, agriculturist, cultural reformer and a visionary person for Karbi cultural renaissance. In the beginning of the 19th century, during the British period, Ru Bonglong Terang was born in a place called Tokolangso, under present Borjan constituency of Karbi Anglong on 10 October 1909. He was the third son of Sar Terang (Bepari) and Kare Tissopi. ‘Ru’ Bonglong Terang, the oral master wrote books like Ronglin – 1986 (The Karbi Book of Death), Arong Ateng – 1973 (A catechism of Karbi folk tradition), Ha-i-Mu – 1937 (The legend of Rain Goddess), Ser Hongthom 1964, Sar Alun – 1990, Rukasen – 1936, Dimir-1977, Adam Asar (Marriage law)-1936, Ronglin, Karbi Kopuson 1967, Karbi Cho Rongje 1977, Aron Ateng 1973, Karhi Karje 1987, Sar Lamsam 1988, Nihu Tiput (1987), Sar Alun 1990 & Aron Pakeng 1992 were some of his masterpiece. ‘Ru’ Bonglong Terang received ‘Karbi Lamkuru Sarpo’ award from Karbi Lamet Amei in the year 1973. He was felicitated by Diphu Sahitya Sabha. The then Chief Minister of Assam Gopinath Bordoloi also awarded him with rupees 500. He also got Literary Pension from Government of Assam. On 23rd June 2009. He was awarded with ‘Khorsing Terang Life Time Achievement Award – 2008’ after his demise. He died in the year 2001 on August 17 due to prolong ailment. He is survived by three sons (Nara, Vophong & Longken) and three daughters Kaveso, Basapi & Ambika.
