The book revolves around the themes of prostitution and liberalist feminism. It centres around the ideas of sex-positive feminism, destigmatization of prostitution and sex workers, with the incorporation of importance of individuality, evolving dynamics of human relationships and issues and movements involving women’s rights. It’s set against the background of Sonagachi, the largest red-light area in Asia.
Through this book, the author aims to destigmatize the sex industry, highlight the goals of liberalist and sex-positive feminism, and create awareness regarding both social and personal issues faced by women, girls and even many young adults and teenagers in the modern society.
Dissemination of this novel would bring about a perceivable change in the readers’ minds, especially the young adults, and would introduce them to the less talked aspects surrounding the aforementioned topics. The contents covered would show them all sides of the herculean issues discussed and would enforce greater thinking in their minds.
About the author
Shruthi Venkata Sai Sistla is a B Tech 2nd year student with specialization in Computer Science and Engineering. Right from childhood, she has had a flair for writing and reading. She likes to write on realistic issues faced by the youth and stigmatized minorities in the society. Her hobbies include writing poems, reading and exploring new genres of books by new authors as well, and researching on youth issues.
