RE-INVENTTHE WAY WE RAISE CHILDREN “We lose ourselves in books and find ourselves there too”. The idea of writing a book or novel has always fancied me. My exuberant early childhood memo-ries and my career associated with children has sparked the flame into writing this book. Looking back at my career timeline, after completing my undergraduate degree in veterinary science, getting a scholarship from Indian council of agricultural research (ICAR) to pursue masters in microbiology, but unfortunately couldn’t join the college and got married to a business-man and life was normal as anyone could imagine, but I didn’t settle for it, I was constantly searching for the purpose in my life and while working on a project to start a preschool in my hometown, it was then I had an opportunity to manage our family-run school, the founder, my uncle who met with an accident left the world and school with great aspiration. Soon I learnt the ABC of schooling. This experience with school has given me a plethora of insights about child behaviour, learning attributes, societal pressures on children, deficits in the curriculum, changes in parental expectations about learning, and so on. My routine work of monitoring classes, training and mentoring created platforms to interact with children of the rural area. It was eminent that they needed more grooming and parenting than communication skills and subject-related knowledge. We realised that management alone cannot bring the desired change, we need the support of parents and society too. We took up a few crucial issues that children endure that hinders learning and limits their transformation, like broken families, working parents, addiction to mobiles, lack of motivation, substance abuse etc. While working on those issues we arrived at a consensus. We have neglected children’s’ basic right, forgotten simple things that contribute to mold them and shifted our focus from prime things. This book is based not only on academic theories but also on my personal experiences on how to manage your kids and future generation.
