About the book

There are several books on the subject matter. Practical implementation are seldom covered. This book covers basics of different forms of renewable energy as well as several implementations all over the world. Apart from implementation of these systems I tried to make the reader aware how these systems can mitigate adverse impact of large scale implementation of fossil fuel based systems. Today many countries are taking concrete measures to close down fossil fuel based large thermal power plants and replacing with renewable energy based systems. Technocrates have also come up with solutions to the draw back of intermittent nature of Solar & wind energy based systems by implementation of energy storage systems. Today transportation system is based on fossil fuel based inefficient mechanism. For that reason I have included a chapter on Electric vehicles. This transportation is not only much more efficient but also help in reduction in pollution levels. Few years back lead acid based battery systems were used for energy storage. Then came the Li based based more compact systems with increased life. Now the battery systems are not only more compact but also come with life upto20 years. Use of hydrogen is also becoming more economical with by product as water. Why mini grids are important for village level development where bringing power to those remote areas may not be feasible by national grid has been dealt with . Finally urgency of implementation of abundantly available renewable energy sources has been highlighted in concluding chapter.

About the author

Author is a graduate in Mechanical Engineering from Visveshwarayya National institute of Technology. Joined as trainee engineer in Bhabha Atomic Research Centre. After completing training for a year was placed as Scientist C in Power Projects Engineering Division( now called Nuclear Power Corporation). Worked here from 1975 to 1980 for design of cooling systems for Nulear power plants. Later joined as Energy Management Engineer in Jyoti Consultants Ltd. Later in 1982 joined National Dairy Development Board as Project Engineer and worked in building dairy plants and Oil seed processing plants up to 1988. Worked as free lance software developer for several organizations up to 1990.Later joined as Principal Systems Analyst in National Informatics Centre and continued there up to 2013and retired as Senior Technical Director. Worked as Advisor to ASA, NGO to set up Custom Hiring centres at various locations to help easy availability of agriculture implements to farmers at reasonable rates besides building food storage and food processing centres by installation of dal & rice mills etc. Now he is Director in Mitray Solar Tech LLP which is helping set up Roof top Photo Volataic systems for individuals, petrol pumps, small agri implement storage centres, tourist centres etc. Earlier book “Illustrated book on Renewable Energy Systems” has been published on Amazon as paper back and ebook.
