About the book
Among the needs of human beings, the food obtained from agriculture is perhaps the most important. This compilation the “Prachin Bharatiya Vaangamaya mein Ann aur Krishi” or “Food Grains and Agriculture in Ancient Indian Literature” is an humble effort to convey some of the aspects relating to food grains, agriculture and sugarcane (and sugar)- the physical expression of Swadu Rasa, embodied in ancient Vedic, Sanskrit and other literature of ancient India.
About the author
Dr. Ashok Kumar Shrivastava is an alumnus of Gurukul Kangri University, Haridwar and Indian Agricultural Research Institute, New Delhi. As a scientist, working in various capacities (in heading the Division of Plant Physiology & Biochemistry, planning sugarcane research, reviewing the research work, as Editor-in- Chief of the Indian Journal of Sugarcane Technology, etc.) at the ICAR-Indian Institute of Sugarcane Research, Lucknow, he served the sugarcane crop for more than 40 years. He has authored more than 350 research papers and reviews in national and international scientific journals/books and authored/coauthored 10 books.
Mrs. Indu Srivastava is an alumnus of Kanpur University, Kanpur, Kanpur. She owes her keen interest in ancient Indian religious literature, especially Puranic, Ayurvedic texts and religious activities, especially related to mathematics and human welfare.
