Description

The book PATH BREAKING JOURNEY defines career journey of the author. He joined IHM, Calcutta in 1968 followed by his selection as Management Trainee in 1971 in India Tourism Development Corporation, Mini-Ratna PSU of Govt. of India. He strived hard, thrived & climbed the ladder of success to retire as Senior Vice President from ITDC in 2010 after 39 years.
He underwent ‘Management Exchange Program’ with Trust house Forte Hotels in London. He worked in many ITDC hotels including 10 year stint at its 550 Rooms, Ashok Hotel, New Delhi.
He also headed Marketing, Events, Travel and Human Resource Development Divisions that enriched his knowledge about other sectors. He took many out-of-box initiatives in order to diversify into new profitable ventures.
The author also evaluates present day IHM education with global hotel industry needs. He analyses that though hospitality education attracts approx. 75,000 students each year but it is an irony that 60% of them join professions other than core hospitality sector. This leaves huge gap in meeting increasing demand of qualified personnel for hotels. He offers solutions to overcome this situation.

About the Author

Author is an IHM Calcutta alumni and has done Masters’ in Tourism Management from Madurai Kamaraj University. He is former Senior Vice President, India Tourism Development Corporation (ITDC) and has worked long years in managerial positions in Ashok Group Hotels and has headed Marketing, Events, Travel, Human Resource Development Divisions of ITDC in a career spanning 39 years. He is an avid traveler. He has toured all over India & to major foreign countries viz. USA, UK, Canada, France, Germany, Switzerland, Italy, Austria, Russia, China, Japan, Australia, Singapore, Thailand, Afghanistan and Nepal. He has lived the life of a Hotelier, Chief of Marketing, Travel Agent, Event Organiser, Educationist, Restaurateur, Consultant, Entrepreneur etc.
