Description
Sloshing is the dynamic behaviour of liquid due to oscillation of its free surface in moving container. The slosh behaviour of liquid in a horizontally moving upright cylindrical container is studied experimentally. The container has rigid supports. Baffles are generally used as damping devices in liquid storage tanks. The focus of the project is to study the influence of a baffle on the dynamic response of a partially liquid-filled cylindrical tank. A baffle is assumed here to have the shape of a thin annular circular plate. The natural frequencies of an in viscid and incompressible liquid are determined for varying positions and dimensions of a baffle attached normal to the tank wall. The coupled vibration frequencies of the tank–baffle system are computed considering the effect of sloshing of liquid. The ring shaped baffle in a circular container has been designed such that it can be attached suitably at a desired location along the axis of the circular container. The baffle can be rigid as well as flexibe The natural frequencies of liquid in a liquid filled cylindrical rigid tank with baffles are evaluated. The slosh frequencies of liquid are computed for different dimensions and positions of baffle.
