“Light Unto A Cell” is the autobiography of Jagat Narain Lal (1894-1966), a very prominent personality of the National Movement. His importance is all the more because apart from being one of the topmost leaders of the Congress in Bihar, he was also one of the most important leaders of the All India Hindu Mahasabha becoming its General Secretary at the Calcutta session of the Sabha in 1926.When the dual membership ended he left the Hindu Mahasabha and continued his political career with the Congress. Light Unto A Cell, was first published in 1946 from Hind Kitab Limited Bombay. In it, he describes his experiences in prison and throws light on his political career during the National Movement, till the Individual Civil Disobedience in 1940. Apart from being the Autobiography of Jagat Narain Lal, Light Unto A Cell, is immensely valuable in understanding the history of the period. Being a prolific writer, Jagat Narain Lal had continuously maintained an account of his life in prison and his political career which he has compiled into this book as his autobiography. There had not been any reprint of this book since 1946. The second edited edition was published in 2019 which was enriched with excerpts from his writings. This is the third edition of the book which has been further complimented with insights from his writings.
