The book draws attention towards Community Video Initiatives in India with the help of case studies of Children As Media Producers (CAMP), Videoactive Girls (VAG), Sneha Praja Video (SPV), Manyam Praja Video (MPV) and Chetana Community TV (CCTV). It allows the researchers and students to understand the comprehensive process and practices of different community video settings.
About The Author
Dr Anil Kumar is an alumnus of the Department of Communication, University of Hyderabad. He has worked as a cinematographer on various films screened at film festivals both in India and abroad. He was also worked as a freelancer before he found his calling in the world of alternative media. Anil has worked in the NGO sector for about three years with an organisation involved in Participatory Video (PV). He has facilitated PV training for various groups and was also involved in various other projects related to the field, like directing and editing three documentaries and training more than 5000 people in video making skills. He was also involved in the production of more than 100 “How-to videos” to aid and promote Small and Medium Enterprises (SMEs) in Nairobi, Kenya. After his initiatives there, he continued to work in Kenya to set up a video unit for Kuza Biashara portal, who make videos on SMEs till this day. He has done PhD in Journalism and Mass Communication from Osmania University, Hyderabad, Telangana State. His research papers and articles have been published in various national and international journals. His paper on “Service-Learning: Participatory Approach of Learning” was awarded the best paper award by Acharya Institute of Graduate Studies in 2018. He is currently working as an assistant professor of Media Studies at Christ (Deemed to be University), India, where he also guides Mphil and PhD research scholars.
