Description

Ember and Waves is a contemporary poetry collection that traces grief not as a single event, but as an evolving relationship with love after loss. Written with tenderness and clarity, the collection moves through the emotional landscape that follows an unexpected death: the initial rupture, the quiet hauntings of everyday life, the questions that rise in the aftermath, the love that remains, and the long practice of living with what cannot be changed. Structured in five parts, the book follows the natural arc of mourning. The Break holds the first impact, when life splits into before and after and time feels unreliable. The Haunting explores the echoes that follow, where grief appears in familiar spaces, in light and shadows, in footsteps, and in ordinary moments that suddenly feel surreal. The Questions offer sgentle inquiry rather than anger, asking innocent questions about destiny, time, strength, and faith as a way of making meaning without forcing it. The Remaining Love is a quiet devotion, where love is allowed to continue without apology, not as denial, but as a living inheritance that shapes how the speaker becomes softer, steadier, and more human. Living With It brings the reader into the ongoing reality of grief, where healing is not an endpoint but a practice, and where peace is sometimes found in small joys, in acceptance, and in learning to carry grief without being consumed by it.
At its core, Ember and Waves is a book about surrender. It reframes grief as love that persists, reshaping life rather than destroying it. With accessible language and intimate imagery, the collection aims to offer recognition to those who have grieved and understanding to those supporting someone who is grieving. The manuscript was written in honor of the author’s Late grandparents and created as a birthday gift for her mother, with 53 poems marking 53 years of love, memory, and endurance.
