About the book

Kalamayee Alaka Daspatnaik has written many poetry books in Odiya language such as Galadina, Amabasyara Nayika, Anya Akasha, Chuna Chuna Phula, Sesha Pahacha, etc.
‘Amabasyara Nayika’ has been translated in Hindi by Padmashree Dr. Srinivas Udgata. Her book ‘Abhilasha’ is her first poetry collection published in Hindi language.
The book contains 19 unique and different poems.
The 1st poem ‘Abhilasha’ depicts the desire of the protagonist to meet her dream God Lord Krisha. Can ‘Abhilasha’ or desire be also expressed to reach and touch the Sun God? The poet has beautifully expressed two different longings in two different versions of the poetry with the same title ‘Abhilasha’.
Some of the beautifully written and yet poignant poems included in this bouquet of poems are ‘Janani’ which expresses the experience of a mother, ‘Daraar’ that describes the feelings of a separation, ‘Dil ki Baatein’ that expresses the feelings in the heart due to separation from the loved one, ‘kal ki baat’ that depicts the uncertainty of life, ‘dukh’ that describes how sorrow is also a part of life with examples from our Indian epics from the life of Lord Krishna who got separated from his mother since his birth and that of Lord Rama who went through difficult times through out his life.
Other poems show the creative aspect of the poet, including her closeness to nature. Poems like ‘Chitrakaar’, ‘Gun hai uski nirali’, ‘Titli’, ‘Baarish’, ‘Gulab’ and many more poems in this book rightfully show this depth and variety in the poetry of Smt Alaka Daspatnaik.

About the author

Mrs Alka Daspatnaik is a well known poet, artist and vocalist of Odisha. She writes poetry & stories in Odiya language which have been widely published in many well known magazines of the country and well appreciated. She has been widely appreciated and awarded in her state and the country by many well known literary organisations in the state like Sachetana, Pallivani, Patitapavana Kalaniketan, Shri Neelamadhava Seva Samiti, Scart Odisha, Banakusum etc. with literary awards like Kalamayee, Pallishree, Kalinga Kavi, Kavi Surabhi, Kusum Prabha etc.
Her books on poetry in Odiya have been published like Galadina, Amavasyara Nayika, Anya Akasha, Chuna Chuna Phula and Sesha Pahacha.
Anavasyara Nayika has been translated and published in Hindi by Padma Shree Dr. Srinivas Udgata.
Smt. Alka has also written in Hindi. Her collection of Hindi poems is published as Abhilasha.
