About the book

My book is a humble chapbook of 7-8 poems accompanied by illustrations. All the poems are either odes written to somebody or something, or they are reclamation of things that the poet has felt a deep sense of shame about, or has seen others unfairly disregard it. For instance, I have a poem called To Drunk Girls in Washroom, which celebrates the light-hearted, sloppy but wholesome displays of female solidarity. Another poem is trying to reclaim ‘feeling sad’, within the context of the poet who grew up in a traumatic environment where she wasn’t ‘allowed’ to express discontent. The poems are long, some of them are written in a style wherein it can be performed in front of a crowd, and the writing style is deliberately kept accessible and relatable. The purpose of the work isn’t to marvel at the craft but to sort of identify with the emotionality of it. Ideally, the reader should think hell yeah, this is so true… Or OMG! I know right???

About the author

Swethlana Saraswat, or just Lana, is a ditzy young woman who works as a cookie-cutter media planner at an ad agency. In her decade-long tryst with writing, she has written serialised fiction on spare notebooks, amateurish opinion pieces on girlhood and teen angst, cheesy poems for her crushes, and feverish fanfictions about British actors. In adulthood, she has dabbled in journalism, content writing, copy writing, theatre and performance poetry. A lot of her writing voice is a melange of those experiences and the authors she read while growing up.
