Description
The book titled “A Textbook of Microbiology” is meant for ensuring compact preparation in semester examinations for the undergraduate students in botany across all the universities of West Bengal as well as other major Indian universities. The book has been written in a concise manner with updated information and diagrams which will help the students to assimilate the concepts of microbiology really well. All the chapters in the book essentially cover every contents of the NEP undergraduate syllabus of botany. The enhanced formatting of the book adds to the visibility and overall quality of the book. Also, certain interesting facts and meaning of essential terminologies in asterisks all through the book, make the book more appealing to the readers. The book also highlights the application part of microbiology with every detail which makes subject more interesting for the students to learn. About The Author
The author, Dr. Roushan Islam is a renowned academician in the state of West Bengal. He had a brilliant track record all through his academic journey. He stood 1st class 1st in both B. Sc (Hons.) and M. Sc examinations of Kalyani University with specialization in cytogenetics and received the prestigious Gold Medal from honorable governor of West Bengal in 2010 at the annual convocation of the university for his academic exellence. He qualified Joint CSIR-UGC NET in 2011 and secured AIR 42. Later, he started his research on Fusarium soil isolates in Mycology and Plant Pathology Laboratory of department of botany, Kalyani University in 2012.
He qualified WBPSC and joined as Assistant Professor in Botany (W. B. E. S) at A.P.C. Roy Govt. College, Siliguri in 2015. He also served S. B. S. Govt. College, Hili in 2016 on getting transfer. Later, he qualified WBCSC and joined Sripat Singh College, Jiaganj in the fag end of 2016. He was awarded with the degree, Doctor of Philosophy (Ph.D) in 2018. Presently, he is acting as an Assistant Professor (Stage-III) in the department of Botany, Sripat Singh College, Jiaganj. He has a total of 25 publications under his belt in reputed national and international journals. Recently he was awarded with International Best Researcher Award by ISSN in Dec. 2025 for his reserach work on Aloe vera. Currently, his research is focused at exploring plant growth promoting attributes of various soil microbes. He is highly dedicated to his profession and teaches his students with utmost passion. He is already the author of two important textbooks in botany titled “A Textbook of Biofertilizer” and “A Textbook on Medicinal Botany”, both of which are becoming exceedingly popular among the undergraduate students in botany across various universities of the state.
